Description:

Automobile accident - dram shop. Plaintiff guardian for Hitchcock sued Gordon and the bar at which he had become intoxicated before driving his car head-on in the car in which Hitchcock was a passenger. Hitchcock sustain a closed head injury as well as neck, pelvic and leg fractures. Her medical bills totaled about $325,000. As a result of her injuries, she now suffers memory and cognitive problems and is no longer able to work as an assistant manager for a cookie chain and is limited to part-time work as a pet groomer. She was making $20,000 a year before the accident. Plaintiff claimed that the driver of the other car had a blood alcohol level of .28 at the time he left the bar.

Outcome:

Verdict for Plaintiff for $1.5 million in compensatory damages plus $25,000 in punitive damages against the bar and $3,000 in punitive damages against the driver.
