Seth J. Robbins, a Partner in the firm's Litigation practice area, is a product of Phillips Academy Andover, Boston College and Suffolk University Law School, where he graduated cum laude. Mr. Robbins specializes in handling complex civil and criminal litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country and has extensive experience in trial and appellate practice, alternative dispute resolution, expert witness development and litigation management. Mr. Robbins' practice is vast and diverse. While he frequently represents individuals and entities in matters involving complex business and employment disputes, Mr. Robbins also has extensive tort litigation experience, including disputes involving premises liability, medical negligence, and First Amendment law. In addition, he has developed a significant probate practice, particularly as it relates to fiduciaries alleged to have breached their duties. Mr. Robbins also represents clients charged with crimes in state and federal courts. Since joining Todd & Weld in January 2006, Mr. Robbins has consistently proved himself an able and fearless advocate. Some of Mr. Robbins' most recent and notable achievements include: Successfully obtaining summary judgment on behalf of Phillips Screw Company against the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. The Suffolk Superior Court (Ball, J.) held that the DOR violated various statutes and regulations when it sent Phillips' tax information to taxing authorities in other jurisdictions without first receiving a written request for the information. Phillips Screw Company v. Commissioner of Revenue, Suffolk Superior Court, Civil Action No. 2013-00607-G. Obtaining a defense verdict after a three-week jury trial in Suffolk Superior Court on behalf of an Executor and Successor Trustee alleged to have breached various fiduciary duties. Bond v. Meagher, et al, Suffolk Superior Court, Civil Action No. 2003-04715G. Successfully petitioning the Massachusetts Appeals Court to reverse a lower court's decision dismissing a claim for defamation. Scholz v. Delp, 83 Mass. App. Ct. 590 (2013). Successfully petitioning the Supreme Judicial Court to reform a trust to conform with the objectives of the settlor. Gilpatric v. Cabour, 450 Mass. 1025 (2008). Obtaining a judgment in the amount of $504,290, including an award for attorneys' fees, against an individual who forged a Will and defrauded an Estate of several hundreds of thousands of dollars. In re Estate of Pasquale Caia, Middlesex Probate & Family Court, No. 05-4316. Securing a favorable settlement result, and avoiding a lengthy and costly trial, on behalf of a private equity firm accused of breaching a fiduciary duty to a former employee. Securing a favorable settlement against a Fortune 500 company in connection with a former female employee's claim for gender discrimination. Securing a substantial settlement shortly after filing suit, and prior to taking any depositions, on behalf of an individual doctor pursuing a claim for defamation against another doctor. Securing a favorable settlement on behalf of a company against a former employee and the former employee's new employer, a competitor company, for the misappropriation of the company's valuable trade secrets and the former employee's violation of the company's non-compete and confidentiality agreement. Securing a favorable settlement in the State of Ohio on behalf of a Massachusetts real estate development company against an individual and his real estate management company for fraudulent misrepresentations in connection with the sale of certain real estate. Securing a favorable settlement on behalf of an individual for severe personal injuries sustained on premises owned by an American public corporation that runs a chain of large, discount department stores. Obtaining a favorable settlement on behalf of an individual severely beaten by bouncers outside a popular Boston nightclub. Recovering a substantial security deposit, with interest, on behalf of a company whose commercial landlord unreasonably withheld the sizeable deposit after the company lawfully vacated the property upon the termination of the lease. Mr. Robbins is admitted to practice in all Massachusetts state courts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is also a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and Boston Bar Association. While at Suffolk, Mr. Robbins was a Note Editor for the Suffolk Transnational Law Review and authored an article on music piracy.
