A motel manager told police officers that a man matching the description of a carjacking suspect was staying in one of the motel rooms. When officers reached the room along an open-air corridor, one peered through a one-inch gap in the windowcurtains and saw Defendant Cameron Watkins sitting on a bed—next to a handgun with an extended magazine. This observation led to Defendant's conviction as a felon in possession of a firearm on that date, and also played a role in his conviction as a felon in possession of ammunition on another occasion.
