Jay, OK - The State of Oklahoma charged Robert Dryden Smith, age 40, with first-degree manslaughter, in violation of 21 O.S. 711 for hitting and killing Jarrell Gray, age 47, a Department of Transportation supervisor, who was killed in a construction zone.



The State charged that on May 18, 2016, inattentively drove the 1995 Ford Crown Victoria and, as a result, hit and killed Gray in the construction zone where he was working.



Outcome:
Defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison with all by 6 years being suspended. He will also be required to get his GED certificate and have an alcohol and mental health evaluation and perform 1,000 hours of community service.
