On November 4th, 2025, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers from the Camden County Police Department were attempting to conduct a pedestrian stop with an adult male – later identified as 25-year-old Marques Jones of Camden – near Chesapeake Road and Congress Road. During that time, Jones pointed a handgun in the direction of an officer and fired multiple gunshots. The officer was struck once by gunfire in his left arm.
After the officer was struck by gunfire, a sergeant returned fire and struck Jones once in the body. After being struck by gunfire, Jones was placed under arrest. Both the officer and Jones were transported to Cooper University Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The officer was reported to be in stable condition and Jones was reported to be in critical condition. A handgun was recovered in the area where Jones was standing when the officer was shot.
