Patrick Loughren on behalf of the United States of America brought suit against Unumproviden Corporation and Genex Services, Inc. on a qui tam theory claiming that defendants attempted to defraud the Social Security Administration by requiring customers to apply for Social Security benefits even though it knew they were not eligible for benefits.
Outcome:
Jury verdict finding that two of the disability claims had been fraudulent and three others had showed no evidence of fraud. The jury was unable to reach a decision on the last one.
