Description: 78-year-old Hammond resident Margaret Frostick was undergoing a procedure to clean out an artery in her neck at Porter Memorial Hospital on January 24, 1995. An oxygen mask she was wearing burst into flames as a doctor was using sparking tool that cauterizes the skin to prevent bleeding. Frostick later died of unrelated problems.
The defendant doctors and their experts denied that the fire and injuries sustained by Mrs. Frostick were the result of any negligent act, error or omission on their part.
Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $750,000.00.
