Anne Jordan, a former University of Southern Mississippi administrator, brought suit for wrongful termination. She claimed that she was fired by Joanne Stevens, a former dean of student services at the university, for complaining that university officials misspent money from a grant program.

The defendants claimed that Jordan was terminated because she was an alcoholic who was not performing the duties assigned to her.
