Description:
Veronica Tomooka, individually and on behalf of Keeton Manguso sued Mariko Bereday on a negligence theory claiming that Bereday failed to exercise due care in the handling of her Rottweiller on Kahala Beach on Mother's Day in 2005 and as a direct result the dog mauled and severely bit Keeton, age 2 and a half, on the back, hip and arms. Keeton was rescued from the dog by a former University of Hawaii football player who punched the dog in the head.
Bereday denied that her dog bit Keeton and claimed that he photographs of the boy's injuries were faked.
Outcome: Plaintiffs' verdict for $856,000.00.
