Description:
Shawn Maesel sued Boca Raton Community Hospital fro fraudulently inducing him to enter into a contract to build the Oaks Plaza medical office building adjacent to the Defendant's hospital. He claimed that Defendant wrongfully accused him of misappropriating funds with the form CEO of the hospital. Despite an audit of the contract that failed to reveal any inappropriate acts on the part of Plaintiff, Defendant forced Plaintiff to sign a new contract if he wanted to bid on new jobs in the future. Despite agreeing to execute a new contract, Plaintiff never received any other bid opportunities from Defendant.
Defendant denied wrongdoing.
Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $3.3 million including $2.65 million in punitive damages.
