Description: Kansas City, Missouri drug distribution criminal defense lawyer represented Defendant, Ladd E. Callen, age 50, who was charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and for illegally possessing a firearm.

On Sept. 25, 2020, Callen pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.

Callen admitted that he was in possession of 371.38 grams of methamphetamine when Kansas City police officers stopped the Chevrolet Silverado he was driving on Oct. 30, 2018. Callen told officers he came to Kansas City to purchase one pound of methamphetamine, which he planned to transport back to Rolla. Officers also found a stolen and loaded Glock handgun on the floorboard directly behind the driver’s seat.

At the time of his arrest, Callen was under the supervision of the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole for his prior possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Kate Butterfield. It was investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

THE DEFENDANT pleaded guilty to Counts 1 and 3 of the Indictment on September 25, 2020. IMPRISONMENT: The defendant is hereby committed to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to be imprisoned for 84 months on Count 1, and 60 months on Count 3, consecutive to Count 1, for a total custody term of 144 months. This term is ordered to run concurrent to the uncompleted portion of the sentence imposed in Phelps County, Missouri, Circuit Court, Case No. 14PHCR00721-01. The Court makes the following recommendations to the Federal Bureau of Prisons: The defendant shall be considered for designation to FCI Greenville and placement in the RDAP program. Voluntary surrender is not ordered, and the defendant, Ladd E. Callen, is to remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service for transportation to the Bureau of Prisons for service of the sentence imposed. SUPERVISED RELEASE: Upon release from imprisonment, the defendant shall be on supervised release for a term of 5 years. This consists of 5 years on each of Counts 1 and 3, the terms to run concurrently with standard and special conditions. CRIMINAL MONETARY PENALTIES: M.S.A. $200.00 no fine or restitution.
