Ralph Pierce, age 70, sued Certainteed Corporation on a products liability theory for the damages and injuries he claimed that he sustained from developing colon cancer as a direct result of being exposed to asbestos containing products manufactured and sold by the defendant. Pierce worked for the West Contra Costa County Wastewater District from 1972 through 1997 where he worked with asbestos–containing cement pipe manufactured by Certaineed. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003.

Outcome: Plaintff's verdict for #3.8 million.
