Albuquerque, NM - Man from Tohatchi, New Mexico, Sentenced to 240 Months in Prison for Kidnapping and Sexual Assault in Indian Country

Ryan Thompson, 32, of Tohatchi, N.M. was sentenced in federal court to 240 months in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting his former girlfriend within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation.

Thompson previously entered a guilty plea to these charges on February 5, 2019. According to court documents, Thompson kidnapped the victim and her child at a gas station in Gallup, N.M. on November 15, 2017. Thompson then drove them to a remote location where he brutally beat and sexually assaulted the victim throughout the night. Thompson confined the victim and her child for a total of two days before she finally escaped and alerted law enforcement.

Outcome: 18:1153 and 1201(a)(2): Kidnapping;
(1) SENTENCE IMPOSED: CBOP 20 years as to each count 1 and 4, said terms shall run concurrently for a total of 20 years; 10 years supervised release with special conditions, 10 years as to count 1, 5 years as to count 4, said terms shall run concurrently for a total of 10 years; SPA $200.00; deft in custody
