Description: Civil Rights - 42 U.S.C. 1981 - Intentional Discrimination in Employment Claim - Albert Jones, a janitor for the City of Edmond, claimed that he was discriminated against because of his age and race by the City of Edmond and its Chief of Police, Dennis Cochran.
Outcome: Jury in favor of plaintiff. The jury was polled and counsel viewed the verdict. The judge then read an agreed upon statement to the Jury concerning amounts on the verdict form. The jury then returned to the deliberation room to complete new verdict form. At 6:00 p.m. the Jury returned with a verdict in favor of the plaintiff, but one portion of verdict form was not been completed and returned to delibertaion room to complete the form. Jury returned at 6:08 p.m. with the verdict form completed in favor of plaintiff. The amount of the verdict in favor of the plaintiff was $230,000 including $150,000 in punitive damages against the Chief of Police Cochran.
