Description: Albuquerque, New Mexico criminal defense lawyer represented defendant charged with first degree murder.
Jeremiah Lopez charged with first degree murder, felony murder, false imprisonment and three counts of criminal sexual penetration.
A criminal complaint was filed on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 which stated that the defendant Jeremiah Lopez called the Albuquerque Police Department to report that he strangled to death his fiance Krishauna Perez in the home that they shared. Lopez believed that Perez was unfaithful to him during their relationship and was frustrated by her alleged affair which served as the motive for Lopez’s actions.
Autopsy and expert testimony during the trial revealed that Perez was sexually assaulted after the strangling occurred. After Lopez strangled Perez he then attempted to take his own life.
“Today we convicted a man who selfishly took the life of Krishauna Perez. The posters you see hanging over I-25 and I-40 say ‘Krishy Strong’ as Krishauna was a strong woman who was a beloved mother, daughter, granddaughter and giver,” said District Attorney Raul Torrez. “This case was hard fought by our prosecutors who provided expert testimony and presented a strong case to the jury. I thank members of the jury for their service and for holding Mr. Lopez accountable for his actions. Today and always we remain ‘Krishy Strong’.”
Outcome: Defendant was found guilty. The trial lasted seven days and the jury deliberated for only two hours before serving a guilty conviction.
