Description: Raleigh, NC - Debra Halbrook sued the State of North Carolina on a civil rights job discrimination theory claiming that Wake County failed to protect her from harassment after she alerted investigators about her suspicions of malfeasance in the DA's Office.

Plaintiff had worked to the District Attorney's office for 20 years when she became suspicious that there was an illegal hiring scheme. Then District Attorney Wallace Bradsher fired her for voicing her concerns.

North Carolina law protects government employees who report concerns of possible violation of the law.

Wallace Bradsher, Wake County DA, and Craig Blitzer, Rockingham County DA, hire each other's wives to avoid state ethics laws.
