Officer Michael Owens, Jr. was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, voluntary manslaughter and misconduct in office for shooting and killing William Green, age 43, who was setting handcuffed in the front seat of Owen's police car in 2020.

Owen had served on the police force for 10 years when he became the first officer in the county's history to be charged with murder in an on-duty killing.

Owens claimed that he shot Green in self-defense.

Prince George's county paid Green's family $20 million to settle their civil rights claim against Owens and the county.

Outcome: Not guilty.
