Los Angeles, CA - Doctor convicted of second-degree murder for drug overdose deaths
The People of the State of California charged Dr. Hsiu-Ying "Lisa" Tseng, age 45, with three counts of second-degree murder as a result of the deaths of three of her patients from drug overdoses. The State claimed that Dr. Tseng recklessly prescribed drugs to patients who she knew or should have known were at risk of overdosing with the drugs.
The People claimed that the deaths of Vu Nguyen, 28, of Lake Forest; Steven Ogle, 25, of Palm Desert; and Joey Rovero, 21, an Arizona State University student were all attributable to Dr. Tseng's acts.
One of the patients died as a result of taking Xanax prescribed by Dr. Tseng and drinking alcohol.
The complex trial of the case took eight-weeks to try and the jury took two weeks to deliberate before rendering their verdict. Two hundred pieces of evidence were admitted and 77 witnesses were called to testify.
