Description: The family and Estate of Tri Hoang, age 30, who died on August 21, 2004, four days after seeking care and treatment at the Swedish Medical Center emergency room from a ruptured aorta sued the Seattle Emergency Physicians and Dr. Grace Dy on a medical negligence theory claiming that the care that he received fell below the standard of care. Hoang's sister Marie filed suit against Dy and UW Clinic claiming that Tri Hoang died as a direct result of the negligence of the emergency room physician. Hoang was a computer systems engineer who supported several members of his family, including a younger brother.
Defendants denied that the care and treatment provided fell below the standard of care.
Outcome: Plaintiff's verdict for $5.39 million.
