Commercial Litigation Mr. Weiland is an accomplished commercial litigator and business lawyer who has served as lead counsel in civil cases involving contracts, securities, energy, construction and health care, as well as employment law and federal civil rights matters. He has counseled businesses on corporate and strategic issues and has represented companies of all sizes. Mr. Weiland has handled arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and FINRA. He has mediated numerous cases for his clients and served as a court-appointed mediator. International Matters Mr. Weiland is frequently called on to handle legal issues involving controversies arising in whole or in part abroad. He has been retained to work on matters arising in the Middle East, the Caribbean and Central America. He has appeared before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg and traveled extensively in Europe on business-related matters. White-Collar Criminal Defense While counseling businesses and individuals embroiled in government controversies, Mr. Weiland has represented clients accused of fraud, environmental crimes, tax offenses, antitrust and securities violations and a diverse range of other alleged misconduct. This practice often requires him to deal with a range of government agencies, from the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission, to the Internal Revenue Service, Departments of Defense, Agriculture and Health and Human Services among others.
