Additional Information: Robert B. Hoffman is a Member of the firm in the Litigation Division, concentrating his practice in health law litigation, as well as counseling on a multitude of health law regulatory, licensing, and contract issues.

In the health care field, Mr. Hoffman counsels physicians, hospitals, nursing facilities, and other health care entities on regulatory compliance and licensure issues in addition to representing them in litigation. His experience and range of health care clients have given him a broad perspective and knowledge base on health care issues. Since 1986, he has represented the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and several other health care associations as an amicus curiae or as a plaintiff in a series of significant health care policy cases in Pennsylvania and federal trial and appellate courts. Those cases have successfully invalidated state rules limiting physician reimbursement and improperly restricting the practice of medicine; prevented the expansion of professional tort liability on health care providers; defended provisions of Pennsylvania’s tort reform legislation, and established legal principles important to physicians and their patients. Mr. Hoffman represented the Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists, for whom he serves as outside general counsel, in its successful efforts to increase the reimbursement they receive for treating Workers’ Compensation patients.

Mr. Hoffman’s civil litigation practice includes work at the administrative, trial and appellate levels, in both state and federal court, on healthcare, general commercial, environmental, and personal injury matters. He has been involved in a substantial number of important health care cases decided by Pennsylvania appellate courts over the past 18 years, as well as important cases in areas of environmental law, congressional reapportionment, liquor law and defamation. He practices frequently before various administrative agencies of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including health care professional licensing boards.
