Since earning her JD from USC Gould School of Law in 1982, Marri Derby has spent over 30 years practicing criminal defense in Southern California. She has tried over 100 cases to a jury, winning the vast majority. She recently obtained an acquittal on a fraud case in Federal Court. She has never lost a murder trial.

The Law Offices of Marri Derby combine decades of experience, a passion for the law, and a strong position of leadership within the criminal defense community to provide clients with the strongest possible legal defense. Derby draws on her experience as the Director of Alternate Defender of Orange County from 2005 to 2013, during which time she helped a number of criminal defendants obtain acquittals or reductions of their charges. She has also served as a supervisor at the Offices of the Orange County Public Defender. Derby is a frequent guest lecturer at UCI Law School and has lectured at USC Law School and at UCLA.

Derby now specializes in homicide and other serious felony charges. As a criminal defender, she took on death penalty cases and convinced the District Attorney to drop death before trial. This experience with the most serious of cases has honed Derby’s sharp defense skills and strong sense for justice.

During her time as Director of Alternate Defender of Orange County, Derby managed a staff of 35 lawyers and 15 support employees. She now runs her own law firm and uses her managerial and organizational skills to ensure that each client receives the attention and resources they need and deserve.
