Jim Cone's practice focuses primarily on complex commercial litigation and products liability. He has been a member of several trial teams, highlighted by representations of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He also has a wide range of experience in briefing and motions practice, offensive and defensive discovery, and the evaluation, development, and preparation of fact and expert witnesses for trial. In addition, Jim has assisted in the representation of General Motors, the Goodrich Corporation, the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, and Parker Hannifin. He works closely with the Firm's government practices and is familiar with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and the various individual military service's acquisition regulations.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Jim served as a captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. While serving as a judge advocate, he tried cases as both a trial counsel (military prosecutor) and as a criminal defense counsel. He also served as a procurement law attorney in the Business Law Division of the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command. In this capacity, he reviewed the solicitations, contracts, contract awards, and contract modifications for several Army programs and ensured their compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Jim is committed to the Firm's pro bono efforts and is currently active in the representation of veterans before the Department of Veterans Affairs.
