Alisa D. Gean, MD is a Professor of Radiology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Gean obtained both her BS and MD degrees at Stanford University. She then completed a Residency in Diagnostic Radiology followed by a Fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She joined the faculty at UCSF in 1989 as the Chief of Neuroradiology at San Francisco General Hospital. She is currently a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology and obtained her CAQ in 1996. Dr.Gean is also an examiner for the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Gean's editorial activities include JAMA, American Journal of Neuroradiology, Radiology, Journal of Trauma, Annals of Neurology, Journal of Neuro-AIDS, and the Journal of Computed Assisted Tomography. Dr. Gean’s primary professional interests include central nervous system trauma, stroke, and HIV disease. She lectures nationally and internationally on the topic of traumatic brain injury, and is a founding member of the Brain and Spine Injury Center (“BASIC”) at UCSF. Dr. Gean has written extensively on the topic of head injury, and is the sole author of the internationally recognized textbook, “Imaging of Head Trauma”.
