Description: Tulsa, OK - Stacey Merrell and Brian Merrell sued St. John Medical Center, Inc. and Women's Health Group on medical negligence (medical malpractice) theories claiming that on June 30, 2009, Stacey Merrell underwent a hysterectomy and bladder repair surgery at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa and that on July 12, 2009 she developed a urinary tract infection which she believed to be caused by self-catheterization after the surgery. She sought treatment for the infection through the emergency room at St. John and was assigned a medical provider with whom she had no prior doctor/patient relationship.

A CT scan, with or without contrast was improperty performed of her chest, abdomen and pelvis. The hospital's radiologist noted on the report that the CT scan was "technically suboptimal for evaluation of a possible pulmonary emboli." Stacey Merrell was admitted to the hospital for unnecessary treatment including anticoagulants and G2 IVC filter despite the fact that she did not have a pulmonary embolism. She was treated by various Women's Health Group physicians including a new intern. She claimed that she was the victim of "July Effect" and did not receive appropriate care.

An unnecessary transvaginal ultra sound was perform with resulting profuse bleeding.

Plaintiffs claimed that she received substandard and unnecessary medical procedure.
