Chadwick Umfleet, a multi-convicted felon, will spend the next 10 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm.
Umfleet, 40, of Jacksonville, pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm on August 26, 2022. That conviction was based on a May 26, 2021, traffic stop by officers of the Jacksonville Police Department in which Umfleet was discovered with marijuana, methamphetamine, and a stolen Taurus 9mm handgun.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Baker heard arguments regarding Umfleet’s three prior felony firearm convictions and six prior felony drug convictions, including Umfleet’s 2012 federal conviction for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
The investigation was conducted by the Jacksonville Police Department with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Julie Peters.
Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
