Between December 2022, and March 2023, Eric M. Butson, from Buffalo, New York, and co-defendant Catalina Hernandez possessed various tools and equipment necessary to make and manufacture counterfeit bills including computers, ink-jet printers, ink, and bleach. Utilizing those tools and equipment, they made and manufactured numerous counterfeit $100 bills. 18 U.S.C. 473 provides: Whoever buys, sells, exchanges, transfers, receives, or delivers any false, forged, counterfeited, or altered obligation or other security of the United States, with the intent that the same be passed, published, or used as true and genuine, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for a term of 24 months. Defendant shall be placed on supervised release for 3 years. Restitution in the amount of $6,000.00 imposed as detailed in Criminal Judgment. $100 Special Penalty Assessment imposed.
