Description: Elko, NV - Jury Convicts Woman of Child Neglect

The State of Nevada charged Nikki Shelley, age 23, with willful abuse, neglect or endangerment of a child.

Shelley gave birth to her daughter at home without telling anyone that she was pregnant except for a friend who was called to Shelley's home on May 18, 2016. Shelley's grandmother found the new-born infant in the trunk of Shelley's car about an hour after the Defendant arrived at a hospital.

The infant had been rapped in towels and was placed in a white kitchen trash bag.

The State claimed that the Defendant's actions were willful.

The Defendant's attorney asserted that the Defendant thought the infant was stillborn.

Outcome: Guilty - The verdict could potentially result in a prison sentence of up to six years.
