Stephen Harburg focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, particularly in the defense of consumer fraud and product liability class actions, mass torts and multidistrict litigation proceedings. He has been involved in numerous class actions in the automobile, insurance, and oil and gas industries. He is currently serving as lead counsel in the Welding Fume MDL proceeding, and is national coordinating counsel for the industry defense group in that matter. Mr. Harburg also served as co-lead counsel in the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire MDL proceeding on behalf of Ford Motor Company. He has briefed and argued class certification motions and dispositive motions in class actions in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels, including arguments before the Supreme Courts of Arkansas, Connecticut and Florida. He has spoken at numerous conferences on class action and MDL issues.
In the regulatory area, he has represented clients before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), particularly in the telecommunications field.
Mr. Harburg was also lead counsel in a successful pro bono class action lawsuit brought on behalf of homeless families in the District of Columbia seeking to improve the conditions of the District’s shelter system for families.
