After graduating from The University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Rodriguez became an associate in the law firm of Rodriguez, Colvin, & Chaney, L.L.P., where he practiced in the area of complex litigation for four years. From January to July 1997, Mr. Rodriguez took a leave of absence from the firm to serve as General Counsel to the Texas Senate Intergovernmental Relations Committee and the Honorable State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. Mr. Rodriguez returned to Brownsville and served as an Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting drug conspiracy, white collar crime and immigration cases for three years before starting the Law Offices of Michael Rodriguez P.L.L.C. In February 2004. Mr. Rodriguez has been a partner in the firm of Atlas, Hall & Rodriguez since April 2012.

Since returning to Brownsville in 1994 following his graduation from the University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Rodriguez has actively served his community on various boards of directors. Mr. Rodriguez served as Chairman of the Board of the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau from 2005 through 2007. Also, Mr. Rodriguez was selected by his colleagues to be the first Chairman of the Board of the BISD Bond Oversight Committee. The members of the Bond Oversight Committee were selected by the sitting BISD Trustees to oversee the expenditure of $135 million dollars of taxpayer funds for the construction of four new public schools. Mr. Rodriguez believes that attorneys should be active members of their communities to help insure continued growth and economic development.
