DCS removed the children from Mother's and Father's home. The Juvenile Court of Shelby County ("trial court") granted temporary legal custody of the children to DCS. DCS placed the children in David G.'s foster home where they have lived ever since. Due to apparent trauma, Ervin Leonard's death was immediately investigated as a homicide. The medical examiner determined that Ervin Leonard's cause of death was blunt force injuries of the head, and ruled the manner of death as homicide.
