The Estate of Terry Hiam, age 43, sued Dr. Stephen Heirendt on a medical negligence theory claiming that he provided substandard care to Hiam after she took an ambulance to Wheeling Hospital in 2009 seeking care for chest pain. Hiam was discharged by Heirendt with a diagnosis of "chest pain or unclear cause, and bronchitis."
Hiam was found unresponsive at home eleven days later.
