New York Man Sentenced to 70 Months for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base and Fentanyl
Owin Thomas, of New York City, was sentenced by United States District Judge William K. Sessions III to a term of 70 months' imprisonment to be followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. Thomas previously pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine base and fentanyl with the intent to distribute those controlled substances.
On August 28, 2022, Owin Thomas was arrested in a motel room in Bennington, Vermont. After his arrest his motel room was searched and during that search agents located and seized 27.74 grams of bulk packaged cocaine base, and 8.82 grams of bulk packaged fentanyl. Law enforcement also located a backpack attributable to Thomas, which contained empty wax paper envelopes of the type normally used to package fentanyl for sale, a digital scale, and a knife.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher commended the collaborative investigatory efforts of the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Bennington Police Department.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas J. Aliberti and Jason Turner. Thomas was represented by Steven Barth.
