Waco, TX - Jury Awards Plaintiffs $450,000 On Wrongful Death Claim



Greg H. Byrd sued Senior Living Properties, LLC d/b/a Jeffrey Place Rehabilitation Center on a wrongful death medical malpractice theory claiming that Homer Byrd, deceased, died in November 2015 as a direct result of having received substandard care while a patient at Defendants nursing home. They claimed that Defendant breached the standard of care when it failed to property care for an infected toe and, as a direct result, Mr. Bryd developed gangrene which result in the amputation of his right leg above the knee and ultimately to his death.



Defendant denied wrongdoing.



Outcome:
Plaintiffs' verdict for $100,000 for pain and suffering and mental anguish, $75,000 for Greg Byrd's loss of his father's companionship and love and $75, for Greg Byrd's mental anguish over his father's death. The jury also awarded $200,000 in punitive damages.
