The State of Tennessee charged Jerrico "Ri-Ri" Hawthorne, age 26, with first-degree murder in conjunction with the slaying of 23-year-old James "J Money" Williams, Jr. in 2011. Williams, a reported drug dealer, was shot 10 times and sustained 14 gunshot wounds. the State claimed that Williams was ambushed by Hawthore and Deangelo "Fookie" Justice when he arrived home with his girl friend.
The victim identified Hawthorne as the shooter before he died from his wounds on the way to the hospital.
