On May 16, 2024, at around 7:45 a.m., Jaylen Simpson, 23, of Memphis, shot a 60-year-old victim in the stomach as the victim stepped outside his home to mow the lawn. Simpson, who had been hiding in the victim's backyard, then stole the victim's car keys and fled in his vehicle.

The Defendant was found guilty and was sentenced Two hundred seventeen (217) months of imprisonment. This sentence is comprised of ninety-seven (97) months on Count 1 and one hundred twenty (120) months on Count 2, with the terms to be served consecutively to each other. This period of incarceration will be followed by five (5) years of supervised release.
