Class action fraud claims by consumers who claimed that Hewlett-Packard defrauded them by selling them inkjet printers half-filled inkjet cartridges. Hughes bought a Hewlett-Packard 712C printer in 1999 and was the lead plaintiff in the suit and representative for about 230,000 people in North Carolina bought Hewlett-Packard printers between Aug. 1, 1998, and Nov. 30, 2000, that contained the half-filled cartridges. He claimed that H-P purposefully and unethically decided to include the half-filled cartridges without providing adequate information for the consumer.
Hewlett-Packard denied wrongdoing on its part.
