State of South Carolina v. Brian Randell Sease

Charleston, South Carolina criminal defense lawyer represented the Defendant charged with Voluntary Manslaughter, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.



Brian Randell Sease was indicted for murdering 22-year-old Travis Green, Jr. on October 30, 2021.



Assistant Solicitors Cassity Brewer and Hunt Russell presented the State's case which included testimony

from City of Charleston Police Detectives Tanya Duby-Gritzuk and Eric Tuttle as well as a SLED firearms

analyst. On October 30, 2021, officers dispatched to the Pinecrest Green apartment complex in West Ashley

found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of his vehicle. A witness

observed the Defendant fleeing the scene while holding a gun. Detectives recovered surveillance footage

from the area and were able to view 3 suspects walking to the area where the victim was shot shortly before

the victim's car was videoed entering the apartment's parking lot. Shortly thereafter, all 3 individuals ran

from the same area. Images showed the Defendant was dressed in a light denim jacket and was holding a

silver handgun. During a search of the Defendant's residence law enforcement recovered that denim jacket.

Crime Scene Investigator Luke Spratt tested a substance on the jacket that was confirmed to be the victim's

blood.



Testimony revealed that the Defendant and the co-defendants planned to rob the victim who drove to the

apartment complex believing he was to sell them marijuana. Crime scene technicians determined two

firearms were used to inflict the 3 gunshot wounds that killed Travis Green. One firearm was located in

the vehicle. Pathologist Dr. Nicholas Batalis testified that one of the fatal gunshot wounds inflicted on the

victim was a shot into his back. The gun seen in the Defendant's hand as he is running from the scene

appeared to be the same gun that was used to shoot the victim twice. Additionally, the Defendant's

fingerprint was found on the rear driver's door of the vehicle, indicating he was seated behind the victim

when he shot the victim in the back.



Co-defendant Antonio Green was tried by the State and convicted by a Charleston County jury of murder

on August 15, 2025. Co-defendant Derrick Stewart pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter on December 2,

2024, and awaits sentencing.



Assistant Solicitor Brewer stated during sentencing that this was a senseless act that needlessly resulted in

a young man's death. The State thanks the City of Charleston Police Department for a thorough

investigation, Solicitor's Office Investigators Josh Pierce, Eric Jourdan, and Kristine Rivera for assisting

with the prosecution, and the family of Travis Green for their strength during this process.

The Defendant was found guilty and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
