Jeannie Jaramillo, age 49, was charged with twoc ounty of steling car, faking kidnapping and eluding police officers in a high speed chase that reduced in the death of a police officer and fireman in March of 2022.
f Officer Robert Duran, 43, and retired firefighter Frank Lovato, 62, started when Jaramillo falsely told a pedestrian in the parking lot of a Sawmill Road apartment complex she was being held against her will.
, Lovato, who was traveling north, swerved to avoid a head-on crash with the fleeing Malibu and then crashed into Duran, who was driving south in the northbound lanes in pursuit of the Malibu. Both men died. The Malibu kept traveling, then sideswiped a white pickup before coming to rest on the shoulder a short distance away, according to reports from the time.
