Matthew Cleary, age 34, was hit by a pickup that failed to yeild the right-of-way at the intersection of Springfield and Memorial in Greenville, North Carolina in July of 2003. He sustained massive injuries and was left permanently disabled from the injuries he sustained in the accident. His medical costs were $470,000 for the treatment of his broken ribs, internal and other injuries. He claimed that he suffered $1.7 in lost earnings.
