Description:
The Families and Estates of Trevor Olson and Tanner Olson sued Hyundai Motor America on products liability wrongful death theories claiming that Trevor and Tanner were killed in a headon car crash in July 2011 caused by a defective and unreasonably dangerous steering knuckle in the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon.



Hyundai claimed that the cause of the accident was a firecracker exploding inside the vehicle immediately before the impact. It denied that any problem with the steering knuckle caused or contributed to the accident.



The Montana Highway Patrol officer who investigated the accident testified that he found not evidence that any fireworks had been ignited in the vehicle.



One passenger was killed and three injured in the other vehicle involved in the accident.
Outcome:
Plaintiffs' verdict for $8.6 million and punitive damages of $240 million.
