The State of Minnesota charged Levi Minissale, age 26, with first-degree murder claiming that he stabbed his girlfriend to death.
The State claimed that Minissale stabbed Yesenia Gonzalez to death and stabbed her husband, Gallo Ruise, also in 2013
Defendant asserted insanity as his defense.
Evidence produced at trial revealed that Minissale, a former Marine, began hearing angels while in boot camp. He was sent to Afganistan, and was active in combat there but faltered and was haunted by an incident where he shot at and killed a group of civilians that included children.
Minissale has been civilly committed and claimed that God ordered him to kill Gonzalez and Ruiz.
