St. Paul, Minnesota criminal defense lawyer represented Defendant charged with possessing a firearm as a felon.



On August 29, 2022, Lamonte Edjuan Brown, 39, pointed a loaded gun at two victims outside of a Minneapolis apartment complex. Officers with the Minneapolis Police Department were dispatched to the apartment, and when they approached Brown, he fled on foot. Officers chased Brown and apprehended him. In Brown's sweatshirt pocket, officers found the loaded gun—a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol that had been reported stolen by the Eagan Police Department.



Brown pleaded guilty on January 11, 2022, to one count of possession of a firearm as a felon. He was sentenced today in U.S. District Court by Senior Judge Susan Richard Nelson. In handing down the sentence, Judge Nelson remarked that that "the trauma in this case is palpable,” and emphasized that "our community is experiencing an epidemic of gun violence.”



This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Minneapolis Police Department.



Assistant U.S. Attorney Hillary A. Taylor prosecuted the case.

Defendant was sentenced to 92 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
