The crime occurred on April 21, 2019 at the victim’s home in Youngsville, and the victim was at home in bed when the incident occurred. The case was immediately reported by the victim and was investigated by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Celestine claimed he was intoxicated and “probably” went into the wrong house and thought he was in bed with his wife. Trial commenced on March 10, and state prosecutors presented evidence to prove the charges, including testimony from then Sheriff’s deputy, Sarah Lawton, that deputies responded to the victim’s house just after 3 a.m. the morning of April 21, 2019, and made contact with the victim.

The victim told deputies that she had been raped then received a sexual assault examination at Lafayette General Hospital. During the investigation, DNA evidence was obtained linking Celestine to the rape.
