Virginia Stringer, Reual Ed Angel, Donnie Brummett and Tina Sparks v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Anthony Whitaker

Slander and wrongful termination claims by four former Wal-Mart Store employees who were fired for eating small amounts of cashews and breath mints from damaged packages of merchandise in an employee lounge. The employees, all of whom had worked for Wal-Mart for nearly seven years were accused of violating the company's pilferage policy. They claimed that it was an unwritten policy that such damaged merchandise was left in the employee lounge to be eaten by store employees and managers.

Verdict for plaintiffs for $1 million each for slander, $1 million each for embarrassment and mental anguish and $3 million each in punitive damages.
