Jacquelyn Gates and Mattie Rhenwrick used Justin Wallace on an auto negligence theories for failing to exercise due care in the operation of his semi-tractor trailer rig owned by Schneider National Carries for the death of Gary Gates and the injuries sustained by Mattie Rhenwrick in 2008. The Schneider rig ran into the back of the Gates mini-van which was stopped at a red light on U.S. 30 near Columbia City. The impact pushed the van into the car in front of them. Gates died in the accident and Rhenwrick suffered severe injuries including a fractured leg.



The Plaintiffs claimed that Wallace, 25, of Meadville, Pa., had 68 emergency stops and various violations and that the truck was on cruise control when it hit the minivan.





The defenses asserted by defendants are not available.
Outcome:
Plaintiffs' verdict for $7.1 million including $5 million for the wrongful death of Gates and $2.1 million for Rhenwrick's injuries.
