State of Idaho v. Bryan Christopher Kohberger

Moscow, Idaho criminal law lawyer will be representing Defendant charged with burglary and four counts in first-degree murder.



Bryan Christopher Kohberger, age 28, is accused of killing Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, who were stabbed to death at a rental home near campus in Moscow, Idaho, sometime in the early morning hours of Nov. 13.



Kohberger, a criminal justice graduate student at Washington State University was arrested in eastern Pennsylvania on December 30th.



DNA analysis tagged Kohberger who owns at white Hyundai Elantra which was seen a on security camera near the crime scene in the early morning hours on the sate of the murders.



The victims had returned home about 2 a.m. on the morning of the crime and were asleep on the second and third floors of the house. Two additional young people who lived in the should slept through the commission of the crimes.



Defendant because a person of interest from DNA recovered by the scene of the crime and as a result of linking the Hyundai Elantra which appeared in a security camera recording from a camera located near the scene of the early in the morning of the day of the crime. The DNA evidence produced matches to some of Kohberger's relatives, which is common when DNA is used to identify a suspect.

The murder weapon, a fixed blade knife has not been found, but the Defendant's DNA was found on a button on the knife sheath found on the bed of one of the victims.



Whether Kohberger's apartment has searched and, if so, what may have been found as a result of the search.



Defendants father apparently flew to Idaho and drove with his son in his car home in eastern Pennsylvania, where Defendant was arrested.



Defendant has apparently waived any objection to his extradition to Idaho and will be transported to Idaho for prosecution.



Kohberger's family issues the following statement:



"There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel.First and foremost we care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children. There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel, and we pray each day for them,” the family's statement read. "We will continue to let the legal process unfold and as a family we will love and support our son and brother. We have fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in an attempt to seek the truth and promote his presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions.”

The Defendant will be transported to Idaho in the next week or so.



"Providing new details about the lengthy investigation that led to Kohberger's arrest, investigators detail how authorities found the eerie scene, and eventually matched DNA from a knife sheath found in a bedroom to Kohberger himself.



Investigators obtained that DNA sample two days after Christmas, when cops "recovered the trash from the Kohberger family residence located in Albrightsville, PA,” and sent it to the Idaho State Lab for testing, the affidavit reveals.



Kohberger's phone had pinged off cell towers near the home "on at least twelve occasions prior” to the killings, almost exclusively in the late evening and early-morning hours, the affidavit states. "



Kohberger claims he was out for one of his regular nighttime drives at the time of the murders, and says his cell phone data will corroborate his alibi.

An indictment is not proof of guilt.
