Description:
Patent Infringement Claim - 35 U.S.C. 282 - Sanus makes stands and supports for audio and video equipment. In January 1998, Sanus introduced a new miniature stereo system stand, called the "Mini Stereo System Stand," at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Retailers responded enthusiastically, and the Mini Stereo System Stand was soon available at both retail electronic stores and general department stores.


On April 23, 1998, Sanus field a design application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which issues a notice of allowance and issued a patent on February 23, 1999.


In January 1999 at the Consumer Electronics Show, Sanus notice that Wood was displaying a stand for a mini stereo system which appeared to be a near duplicate of the Sanus system. Sanus filed suit claiming that the Wood system was essentially a duplicate of the Sanus system.

Outcome:
Preliminary injunction in favor of Sanus.
