Description:
Tampa, Florida, personal injury lawyers represented the Plaintiffs on prisoner civil rights violation theories under 42 U.S.C. 1983.

Reported by Kent Morlan

Plaintiffs Ethel Anderson, Wanda Meadows, Jacqueline Luongo, Jennifer
Johnson, and Virginia Crowley, former and current inmates in the custody of the
Florida Department of Corrections (“FDC”), initiated this action against Defendant
Centurion following alleged sexual assaults by one of its medical providers. Plaintiffs generally alleged violations of their Eighth Amendment rights, claiming
that (co-Defendant) Dr. Ader Benoit sexually assaulted them during scheduled
gynecological appointments at Lowell Correctional Institution (“Lowell CI”). Plaintiffs claimed that Centurion, the Florida Department of Corrections’
contracted medical provider at Lowell CI, has an unlawful policy, practice, and
custom that is deliberately indifferent to a substantial risk of serious harm from
sexual assault by Dr. Benoit.
