Homero Ramos, 51, is a lawful permanent resident who lives in Marion County but has never obtained U.S. citizenship. Nevertheless, Ramos registered to vote and voted – even though he knew that only U.S. citizens are permitted to do so under Alabama law. According to records maintained by the Alabama Secretary of State and the Probate Court of Marion County, Ramos voted in the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
Homeland Security Investigations investigated the case with assistance from the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Brett A. Janich is prosecuting the case.
The maximum penalty for the offense charged is 5 years in prison.
